Captain Cook Was Here!

9781108044011fc3dFollowing up on Kate’s blog, and sparing no expense for the edification of our public, we sent the CLC roving reporter to Waimea, on Kaua’i island in Hawai’i, where Captain Cook first landed in 1778. (Local publicity refers to the ‘harbor’, but in fact the historic spot is this rather lovely beach.)

There is a statue of Cook in the town square:

but the most spectacular local feature is the Waimea Canyon, which drops down 3,400 feet.
